Away fans suspended from derbies indefinitely
F.C. Copenhagen distances itself from the unpleasant scenes that took place at Sunday's derby in Brøndby Stadium.
An hour before the start of the match, a group from Brøndby's section of the ground broke through a fence, ran down the length of the stadium, and threw lit flares at F.C. Copenhagen's supporters.
The episode escalated in a matter of seconds, and a group from FCK's away section responded by scaling the fence and throwing lit flares in return, endangering everyone nearby.
The police intervened between the two sets of supporters and also experienced lit flares being thrown at them.
F.C. Copenhagen would like to state that it is very sorry that it wasn't possible to keep the fan groups separate in the stadium. Scenes like these have absolutely nothing to do with football.
That F.C. Copenhagen's fans were subjected to an attack is completely unacceptable. It is also unacceptable that several fans from the away section threw lit flares at the police, who were trying to protect both parties.
The Divisional Association has since decided to suspend away fans for derbies indefinitely. We accept the decision and support the intentions - all options must be tried in this process.
Now we look forward to the continued dialogue with the police, with fans, with the Ministry of Justice and with Brøndby.
