FCK, Red Cross and Vangsgaard team up for asylum children
Because the club, in partnership with the Red Cross and Vangsgaard, have arranged for children at asylum centres in Zealand to watch the game.
Copenhagen's Anders Hørsholt explained: - We were asked by Vangsgaard whether this was something we would want to help with, and we obviously do!
- For everyone at FC Copenhagen, this is about giving children a good experience, because all are welcome here, no matter where they come from.
- The common factor for these children is that they have been through many tough experiences. Here, we can hopefully take them away from everyday life and give them a fun time, which is what we live by at FCK.
- We look forward to seeing them all here at the match.
The children and their guardians will be picked up in buses throughout Zealand and taken to the stadium.
They will come from centres in Roskilde, Græsted, Nykøbing Zealand, Hvalsø, Birkerød and Dragør.
- It will be a fantastic experience for the children and their guardians to watch football with happy Danes, said Red Cross asylum chief Anne la Cour.
- One of our most important tasks is to give children a meaningful and safe environment away from their hard life. A Sunday excursion gives them the feeling of something nice and recognisable from before their worlds were turned upside down. We know it means a lot to them.
The idea for the initiative originally came from FCK’s sponsors, Vangsgaard. And they’re also looking forward to the match.
- When we discussed this idea with FC Copenhagen, it grew out of the fact that there is much debate on this issue among our employees, said Vangsgaard sales and marketing director Jesper Christensen.
- We hope we can help give the children an unforgettable day and make a small difference for them.
The Red Cross will also be collecting money around the stadium on match day. Read more on the Red Cross’ initiatives online here in Danish and here in English.
