German Onugkha

F.C. Copenhagen sign German Onugkha

F.C. Copenhagen can confirm the signing of last season’s Danish Superliga top scorer German Onugkha from Vejle Boldklub.

The Nigerian-Russian striker has signed a two-year contract at FCK, having played for Vejle since 2021.

He scored 15 goals in the Superliga last season and has already found the net three times in this campaign.

Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen said about the agreement: "We have of course been looking for a new striker because we have said goodbye to Orri Óskarsson. Therefore, we have worked hard to secure a player who can bring the necessary quality into our game and ensure competition in that position.

"German showed that last season, when he became the top scorer in the Superliga, and at the same time it is a big advantage that he already knows the Danish league well.”

Onugkha: Focus on performing and winning
For 28-year-old Onugkha, the switch to F.C. Copenhagen is a dream come true.

"I have many times wished and dreamed of coming to F.C. Copenhagen,” he said. “This is clearly the biggest club in Scandinavia with an absolutely fantastic history and impressive support from the fans. I am keen to win trophies in my career, and I am really looking forward to playing for a top team whose ambition is to win championships every season.

“I will do everything to score goals, fight and work hard for the team, and give everything I have so that we can achieve new successes together. I have only one focus and that is to perform and win football matches for F.C. Copenhagen. That's the only important thing for me now.”

Neestrup: A great addition
Head coach Jacob Neestrup is looking forward to working with Onugkha and believes that he can come straight into the club and ensure quality of his position.

"We have been able to see and follow German in the Superliga at close quarters, so we know very well what type of player we’re getting. He is a player who has hurt many opponents – including ourselves,” said Neestrup.

"His greatest strength is in the opponent's third, where he can give us a new dimension in our finishing game. His raw strength, aerial ability and strong finishing skills with both feet make us believe in him as a future goalscorer for F.C. Copenhagen.”

German Onugkha will wear shirt no. 9 this season.
