Kevin Diks to join Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer

Kevin Diks will leave F.C. Copenhagen this summer to join Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach when his contract with FCK expires.

The 28-year-old defender’s future is now set but he still has a few things to accomplish before leaving Copenhagen.

Diks: Emotions must be put on hold until the last game
“There’s no doubt that it will be very sad to leave F.C. Copenhagen. It will not be easy, but at the same time I am happy to have my future in place,” says Diks.

“Borussia Mönchengladbach has given me an opportunity that I cannot refuse. Both in terms of the sporting challenges and financially.

“I am at an age where both elements are crucial for my future, and that is why I am happy that this has been clarified. But now I am pushing it aside again, because I have something I need to achieve here in Copenhagen first.

“When I say goodbye to F.C. Copenhagen, it will be with a gold medal. We will win the Danish championship and the cup, and that is my full focus. We are entering the spring now, where we must finish our job, and this is where my thoughts are.

“I find it difficult to put into words what the club, the city and the fans have meant and mean to me. “It is something very special to be here, and it is a feeling that will forever live in my heart.

“My family also loves Copenhagen and the club, but now it is about parking all the emotions until the last match is played.”

Diks has so far played 158 games, scored 20 goals, won two championships, a cup title and been part of two Champions League group stages at FCK.

Sune: Clear agreement since this summer
"In the summer transfer window there were several offers for Kevin, but we chose to keep Kevin because he is of crucial importance to our team and way of playing,” says sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen.

"We have always had a really good dialogue about things with Kevin and his team. Since then we have known that Kevin would move on in the summer after his contract expired. But even though we have known that, it does not make it easier to say goodbye to such a fantastic player.

"Fortunately, we also know that Kevin is at least as ambitious as when he came to Copenhagen, and you can tell from him that he wants more from here. We will work hard together for that this spring.”

Neestrup: Loyal, dedicated and solid player
Jacob Neestrup is delighted that Diks will stay at F.C. Copenhagen for the rest of the season.

“Kevin has made a great contribution to F.C. Copenhagen for three and a half years. Not just under me, but also previously under Jess,” says the head coach.

“Kevin came to us as a full-back, but today he is an extremely flexible player who can cover all positions in a defensive line. He reads his position in his own way, and it is very natural that he now gets the opportunity to play for a club with a long tradition in the German Bundesliga.

“I am happy for Kevin and at the same time very satisfied that Kevin, his team and my sports director have together found a solution that allows Kevin to help the team throughout the spring.”
