FCK fall to defeat in Manchester
F.C. Copenhagen were a penalty kick away from earning a deserved point at Old Trafford but it wasn't to be as the Lions fell short 1-0 to Manchester United in the third group game of this season's UEFA Champions League.
Jordan Larsson stepped up to take the penalty but saw his effort saved by Andre Onana in what turned out to be the last kick of the game.
Jacob Neestrup's team deserved more than the narrow defeat after controlling swathes of the encounter, backed by around 3,000 FCK fans.
Diogo Gonçalves hit the post early on, while Elias Achouri twice went narrowly wide. Denis Vavro and Lukas Lerager tested Onana with long-range efforts – the latter's header being tipped onto the post and wide.
At the other end Kamil Grabara did sensationally well to deny Christian Eriksen in United's clearest opening 54 minutes in. Rasmus Højlund skied his best chance of the night and Grabara was on hand to twice deny Alejandro Garnacho.
The deciding goal came through United defender Harry Maguire, who lost his marker to head home in front of the Stretford End.
Neestrup switched things up in search of a leveller and it very nearly came in the final minute of stoppage time. Scott McTominay was pulled up for a high foot but Larsson couldn't convert the resulting penalty.
The defeat leaves FCK bottom of Group A with one point, despite three competitive performances in the competition so far. Next up for the Lions is a home tie with Hvidovre on Saturday, while United are their next opponents in the Champions League in Parken on 8 November.
