New iconic third shirt: F.C. Copenhagen and adidas pay tribute to the Danish capital’s design heritage
F.C. Copenhagen and adidas today present the men's third shirt to be worn during the 2024/25 season, marking a new, ambitious era in the long-standing partnership. Both the shirt design and the campaign launch pay tribute to the Copenhagen icons. The shirt can be purchased from 23 November 2024.
Inspired by Copenhagen’s iconic design
Copenhagen has an iconic deep green that runs through the city. From its 40,000 street benches to park gates, street doors, and more. The green is part of the city’s identity and its heritage.
Together with adidas we are taking the design of the Lions’ player jerseys to an unprecedented level, by weaving the history of the capital into the fabric of the shirt.
New design process and raised level of ambition
The new jersey is the result of a completely new design process and heightened level of ambition, which sets the direction for the future of the collaboration between adidas and F.C. Copenhagen.
"It has been essential for us to be able to take the next step together with adidas, and truly tie the club and the city together in our jersey. We have long wanted to tell this part of the city's history, but it has been crucial to be able to hit the right color and the right details. We have now succeeded in doing so," says Martin Nøhr, Merchandise & Retail Operations Manager at F.C. Copenhagen.
This is reflected in the design of the shirt, which originates from the Copenhagen green colour, which has been present in the capital’s streets since the 19th century, and which has since become a defining expression of the city’s identity.
“We always work closely with our partners on thorough design development,” says Jürgen Rank, Senior Design Director at adidas. “The original idea, which came from the club itself, was to pay tribute to the city's most iconic landmark, starting from the well-known city benches.
“The result was a unique shirt that mixes tradition and modern aesthetics. We are very proud of the result – a very special shirt that transforms a unique local characteristic into a statement that both symbolises the city and the club.”
Special back print with references to the city's design heritage
In addition to the Copenhagen green colour and the iconic pattern inspired by the city's design heritage, the shirt’s print typography is also inspired by Copenhagen street signs. Shirt prints can be purchased both online and in the FCK Fan Shop.
Club icons and Copenhagen landmarks adorn the shirt
We are launching our third shirt with a major campaign that pays tribute to some of the club’s own icons with the Copenhagen bench as a focal point.
“With the new third jersey, we wanted, as always, to show off a beautiful design in a classy way,” says Mads Jefsen, marketing director at F.C. Copenhagen. “But with such a good story behind it, we also saw the potential to throw ourselves into a bigger story with the bench as the focal point.
“The ‘Københavner Bench’ is an iconic “conversation room” in the city and we wanted to pay tribute to some real Copenhagen icons.”
Most Copenhageners have probably had memorable moments on just one of the many green benches in the capital. This is where we talk to friends and family, have serious conversations and engage in chit chat. Life's heavy twists and turns and the more cheerful moments. Face to face, shoulder to shoulder, this is where you can be honest with each other.
Rudi, Thomas and Katinka
F.C. Copenhagen, in connection with the launch, surprised some people of special importance to the club, and shared some special words with them.
In the campaign, we meet Thomas Høg, our stadium announcer for more than 25 years; long-standing fan coordinator Katinka Riess; and Rudi Nielsen, a loyal supporter of FCK home games in Parken since 1992 and widow of the clubs' first chairman, Harald Nielsen.
Delaney: A nice tribute
Thomas Delaney, who returned to his boyhood club over the summer following a top career in Germany and Spain, believes the shirt connects with a city he – and all Copenhageners – know well.
"The city means everything to us who play at F.C. Copenhagen and with the new third shirt, there is no doubt which city we belong in,” says Delaney. “Sometimes we may take it for granted, which is why it’s nice to pay tribute to the city's iconic design and beautiful landmarks. I'm looking forward to playing in a shirt that makes me proud and makes me feel at home.”
F.C. Copenhagen’s 2024/25 third shirt goes on sale at the end of November and is expected to be used in matches before the turn of the year. As always, the shirt can be bought in the FCK Fanshop in Parken and at fckfanshop.dk
