Lions draw 1-1 with Viborg – reaction

F.C. Copenhagen came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Viborg on Sunday and maintain the undefeated start to the new Danish Superliga season.

Orri Óskarsson scored seven minutes from time to level after Jakob Vester had given the visitors a second-half lead.

"Our two most recent matches – today and Thursday – have been played at a level that's far too low for us," says head coach Jacob Neestrup.

"Even if we had won 2-1 today it wouldn't have changed that verdict for me. Of course, we would have liked to have secured three points instead of one, but we didn't and we won't hide from the fact how we performed today was very far from optimal.

"It's hard to put your finger on just one thing, but our game was cramped both with and without the ball, and we became too static and made too many technical mistakes. It was difficult to maintain a flow in the game. So the high level that we otherwise had earlier in the season, we haven't shown that in recent games.

"There was only a short period after the long stoppage when we performed well and created the goal for 1-1, but we were unable to maintain that momentum, so everything was open and frantic at the end."

Neestrup opted to make a few changes to his XI that secured a shootout win in Ostrava in midweek, and stands by his selection.

"We had to take into account that many played a long and hard game on Thursday, and that we have four important games in the next two weeks before the international break," he adds.

"So both to prevent injuries and to keep the players fresh, we rotated, and that was perhaps also why Orri and Elyounoussi could come on with a freshness that secured the equaliser."

Next up for FCK is Thursday's UEFA Conference League playoff first leg against Kilmarnock at Parken.
