Marcos Lopez

Marcos Lopez joins FCK on loan

F.C. Copenhagen and Feyenoord have agreed on a loan deal with a purchase option for Peruvian full-back Marcos Lopez.

Lopez has played for Dutch side Feyenoord for the past two seasons. Before that he played at MLS San Jose for three years.

Sune: Strengthened competition at the back
Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen says about the agreement:

"Marcos has shown himself well in a strong Feyenoord team over the past two seasons and in the national team for Peru.

"Marcos primarily covers the position of left-back, and since we want to ensure as much competition as possible in all our positions, it has been an important agreement to get in place. He is also a player who is well integrated in Europe after spending a few years in the Netherlands and therefore he knows the culture.

"We have had a good dialogue with Marcos, who has expressed a great desire to come to Copenhagen, because he can see good things for the future.”

Neestrup: Flexible offensive option
Head coach Jacob Neestrup is looking forward to bringing the qualities that Lopez possesses into the squad.

"Marcos has good speed across both short and long distances. From his time in a really good Feyenoord team, he is used to having to defend one-on-one against skilled players across both wide and narrow areas.

"Furthermore, he is a flexible offensive player who can help build the game from the back, centrally and wide.”

Lopez: Looking forward to playing in Parken
As for Lopez, who boasts 38 caps for Peru, he is looking forward to getting started in the Danish capital after recently competing in the Copa America.

"I had no doubts about my decision to come to F.C. Copenhagen, after the conversations I have had with the coach and the sports director,” he says. “They have been very precise in their wishes and requirements, and where they see my strengths coming into the team.

"It is also a good opportunity for me to join a club in great development, and I’m very much looking forward to playing matches in Parken in front of the fans, who look very passionate. I think that's fantastic.”

Lopez will get shirt number 15. He will train for the first time with his new teammates on Friday in Frederiksberg.
