Neestrup praises subs for win at Vejle

F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup was all praise for his substitutes as the Lions reversed a one-goal deficit to beat Vejle 2-1 in the dying stages of Sunday's Superliga clash.

Kevin Diks' penalty just after the hour mark cancelled out Kristian Kirkegaard's opener for the hosts, before Andreas Cornelius came off the bench to head home the winner five minutes from time.

Discussing the game, Neestrup said: "It's an individual error that cost us the goal and that's what can happen, but I don't think the team as such came out badly after the break.

"It took us a few minutes to recover but I think we kept our composure, even though we also gave them one more chance after the hour. But we kept the pressure on them that we also had for most of the first half and we created plenty of chances to score more than the two goals.

"Of course I'm very happy on Corner's behalf that he came on and became the match winner, because I know how much it means to him and to all of us. But I'd also like to highlight the others who came on from the bench. Claesson helped make a difference, Lopez had a great run and set up the goal as well, and Froholdt came in at the end and helped drive it home."

Cornelius was naturally the centre of attention after the game and, in addition to Neestrup's joy at him being the match winner, the striker also contributed in other ways.

"Corner is a very explosive player who is good under pressure," added Neestrup. "He is a player who attracts some extra attention and that makes room for others, so he is important for us in several ways."

Next up for FCK is the first UEFA Conference League game of the league stage on Thursday, when Jagiellonia Białystok arrive in Parken.

The match kicks off at 9pm and tickets are still available to buy online.
