Neestrup: 'The table doesn't lie'
Jacob Neestrup struggled to "find the words" to describe his emotions after F.C. Copenhagen's Champions League victory over Galatasaray on Tuesday evening.
The 1-0 win - secured via Lukas Lerager's second-half tap-in – means FCK advance to Monday's last-16 draw. It is only the second time in FCK's history that the team has escaped the Champions League group stage.
Asked for his reaction after the game, Neestrup told FCK.dk: "What can I say? Here we are again! Being second in the group is fully deserved, because I really think we proved that we were the second best team in the group over the six games. The table doesn't lie.
"So I am happy and proud on behalf of the players, the fans and every corner of Copenhagen. This also means a lot for Danish football.
"An evening like this in Parken… well, I've said it many times before, and I'd like to say it again. Parken can do something special in these evenings, which you don't see in many other places in Europe.
"That support really means a lot when we go onto the field, and again tonight we are 12 against 11. It's no coincidence that we have picked up six points in the group here and were very close to a seventh against Bayern.
"The aim has always been to progress into the New Year and as the group has developed it was realistic to progress in the Champions League. We deserve to be where we are now. Let's see what the draw brings on Monday, where we can easily run into some teams at the same level as those we have met in the group stage."
