Zeca: We're ready for the new season
F.C. Copenhagen captain Carlos Zeca believes the team is ready to go again when the 2020/21 Superliga season kicks off on Sunday.
FCK head to OB for the opening match of the campaign and Zeca keen to get off to a flying start.
"It has been a different preseason because we played European games after the Superliga ended (this summer), and some of us have been away with our national team in recent weeks.
"This means that it is actually only today, Thursday, that we are all together and can look forward to the match against OB.
"But we are ready for the match and look forward to getting started.
"Our goal in the league is definitely to win the championship. We had a tough season domestically last term, while it was really good in Europe. There were many reasons for that, but I think we have a strong team with lots of experience and talent combined, so we must be able to perform in both the Superliga and Europe.
"We will be tested in this from the start with the fixture list that awaits us, first against OB and then in the Europa League, before the derby next Sunday.
"We are looking forward to getting started again."
Zeca himself has just returned from international duty with Greece. And the 32-year-old is ready for action.
“I feel fresh and in good shape, and I know that people have worked really hard here in pre-season, so we are physically ready to perform from the start," he said.
"We hope to play a lot of matches, so it is important that everyone in the squad is ready to do everything for the team."
Danish football will welcome a reduced number of spectators to matches this season, after largely smooth trials during the summer.
It means some supporters will be able to watch games in Parken Stadium this term.
And Zeca is delighted that fans will be allowed back into grounds.
"It gives a completely different energy around the matches, even though we still miss having the full atmosphere," he said.
"We will also miss our own fans in Odense and Gothenburg, but we know that they are behind us, even though they are not at the stadium.
"We will definitely play for them on Sunday, even if they can't get to the stadium."
OB v F.C. Copenhagen kicks off at 6pm on Sunday and will be shown live on 3+ and Viaplay.
