Ståle: We were mentally and physically strong
F.C. Copenhagen manager Ståle Solbakken was delighted with the resilience shown by his players in the late 2-1 win over IFK Gothenburg in Thursday's UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.
Goals from Robert Mudrazija and Jonas Wind earned the Lions safe progress late on in Sweden.
"Contrary to what many at home will probably say, the players delivered a really well-executed match on a very difficult pitch against a very well-organised opponent," said Ståle after the victory in Gothenburg.
"We had six or seven chances to their one.
"We started really well in the first 10-12 minutes and also towards the end of the first half with 12-13 good minutes, so for half of the first half we were good. We also started the second half well, but then hit a lull when we couldn't get past them, and then, as I said, they scored on their first chance.
"We were not surprised that the match developed in such a way that we could create a lot of chances against only a few of theirs, and we knew we must not make mistakes because it could be severely punished.
"When they scored, we had had full control over the match, and their goalkeeper kept them in the match with some great saves, but even when we went behind the boys did not give up.
"They kept their heads high and showed they were both mentally and physically strong."
FCK will now face Polish side Piast Glawice in the third qualifying round in Parken Stadium next Thursday.
