PSE and Nordisk Film end e-sports brand North
Parken Sport & Entertainment and Nordisk Film have decided to wind up the joint e-sports company North following a strategic focus.
The global Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected large parts of the entertainment industry over the past year. As a consequence, Parken Sport & Entertainment and Nordisk Film have chosen to stop investing in the e-sports company North and instead focus on their core businesses.
"We are of course sorry that we now have to close the Danish-based e-sports company North, which has made a good impact on international e-sports," says Lars Bo Jeppesen, chairman of North and director of Parken Sport & Entertainment.
"We have searched the market to get one or more co-investors on board the project, but have unfortunately not found the right match. It will require significant continued investment to create a sustainable business in the future and therefore we believe that the sole responsibility for our overall business is to focus all our efforts on our core business in F.C Copenhagen, Parken and Lalandia, just as Nordisk Film will focus on their large core and growth businesses.
"It is still uncertain when a reopening after Covid-19 is realistic, and therefore when we can get customers back. There is still potential in e-sports and gaming, but that horizon is a far way away and uncertain, and Covid-19 has moved set it back further years into the future according to our assessment, as both e-sports and the sports industry as a whole have been hit hard financially."
Thanks to everyone who has made a great effort
“As owners of North, Nordisk Film and Parken Sport & Entertainment have both been happy with the collaboration and will in future see each other as potential partners in new projects where the match is the right thing to do," says chairman of Parken Sport & Entertainment, Bo Rygaard and CEO of Nordisk Film, Allan Mathson Hansen.
"We would like to thank all the people and partners who have made a great effort around North over the past four years."
F.C. Copenhagen takes over the FIFA team
F.C. Copenhagen will now take over the FIFA part from North with a view to continuing to be part of the eSuperliga, while the other activities in the company will be discontinued on an ongoing basis over the near future.
