Boilesen back in Denmark squad for World Cup qualifiers

F.C. Copenhagen defender Nicolai Boilesen has been selected for Denmark's national team for the first time in three years and is looking forward to the opportunity to make a comeback in red and white in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Denmark will play Israel, Moldova and Austria later this month as they get their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign underway.

"It's great to be back on the national team, of course," said Boilesen. "Being able to represent your country at the highest level is one of the greatest things you can achieve as a player. So I am happy and proud of the selection."

Last international match was 2018
The 29-year-old defender played his most recent international match in March 2018, when he was involved in two friendly games against Panama and Chile ahead of the World Cup in Russia that summer.

"I was also selected in the month of March before the World Cup at the time - without joining the team for the tournament itself, so I'm nothing thinking much about the timing right now, even though the European Championships are expected this summer," he added.

"Now it's about the three matches in the World Cup qualifiers. I have not been on the national team under Kasper (Hjulmand, danish head coach) before, so I am looking forward to the opportunity to show myself when we meet in the national team camp next week.

"And then we take it from there. But first and foremost, we have a match on Sunday against Randers."

In addition to Boilesen, Jonas Wind has also been selected for Denmark's upcoming matches, while Victor Nelsson and Mohamed Daramy are in the Denmark U21 squad for group games for the Euro U21 Championships, which take place during this international break.
