Copenhagen helps veterans back into work at Veteran Match 2022
F.C. Copenhagen will host the Veteran Match 2022 over this weekend – and it's an event everyone can get involved in.
The Veteran Match is a jobs match event where veterans are able to meet prospective employers. It takes place on Friday at Parken Stadium, where jobs and internships can be discussed.
On Sunday, we will pay tribute to Denmark's veterans at our home game with AGF. The Lions will play in a special white jersey, which will be auctioned off afterwards to raise money for DIF Soldaterprojekt.
The project runs and develops sports services aimed at helping and supporting injured veterans.
The Copenhagen event has had growing pains
The first edition of Veteran Match was held in autumn of 2020 by the Municipality of Copenhagen, in close cooperation with FCK and the Danish Sports Confederation.
The ambition was to make it a recurring event – not just in Copenhagen, but across the country and in several sports.
It has largely succeeded. In total, 35 jobs matches will be undertaken in September and early October, divided between the 3F Superliga, the Metal League and the HTH Men's League.
In addition, six job match days will be held in Ringsted, Odense, Copenhagen, Aarhus, Viborg, Aalborg, while FC Midtjylland and Herning Municipality are collaborating on an employment effort for veterans in central Jutland.
FCK proud to be involved
"We are proud to be part of Veteran Match, which we ourselves helped to start together with DIF Soldaterprojekt and Copenhagen Municipality," says FCK director Jacob Lauesen.
"We have seen many veterans move forward in positive job processes as a result of Veteran Match and have also hired an employee through the project, which we are incredibly happy about.
"We hope that there will be great support again, and we are looking forward to the day."
Copenhagen - Veteran municipality of the year
Copenhagen's employment and integration mayor, Jens-Kristian Lütken, is delighted that Copenhagen can once again support the city's veterans.
"It is important that we pay tribute, recognise and ensure good conditions for the city's veterans," he says.
"Earlier this year in Copenhagen, we were voted Veteran Municipality of the Year, and for me it is only natural that we are now taking part in the Veteran Match for the third time.
"I hope that this year we will also create some good matches between the city's unemployed veterans and the companies that can benefit from the unique skills veterans have."
Veteran Match really makes a difference
Rune Oland Tanggaard, project manager at DIF Soldaterprojekt, says: "With Veteran Match, we have created a platform where we can really make a difference for the veterans in Denmark.
"Both when it comes to the recognition in our sports arenas, but also to a large extent by helping the unemployed, as well as veterans with injuries, into employment.
"Here, the Municipality of Copenhagen and F.C. Copenhagen have proven themselves to be strong actors, and therefore we are looking forward to an eventful weekend that can hopefully help a lot of veterans move on in life."
