Diks ready to play anywhere for FCK cause
F.C. Copenhagen full-back Kevin Diks says he's ready to play anywhere on the field to help the Lions cause, as the Danish Superliga's Championship Round hots up.
There are just seven games remaining this season, and FCK sit top of the table by a point ahead of FC Nordsjælland.
Injuries and suspensions have meant head coach Jacob Neestrup has needed to shuffle his pack in recent weeks – and Diks is happy to play in any position.
"It is important to be able to do a job for the team," says Diks. "I have played as a central defender quite a few times both in training and in matches, and it suits me to be able to help the team in that way if necessary.
"It's obviously a different role than when you play right- or left-back. It's more about challenges and positioning ability when we defend, but I still have the opportunity to create space and take part in the build-up play when we have the ball. And that suits me quite well."
Valdemar Lund came off with a knee issue in Sunday's win over Viborg, which gave Diks half an hour to play alongside Denis Vavro in the heart of defence. With David Khocholava recently undergoing an operation, and Nicolai Boilesen sidelined, Diks could end up getting more playing time at centre-back.
"I played almost the entire cup match in Vejle as a central defender together with Denis, and it went well, just as it did in the last half hour on the pitch on Sunday," says Diks. "We both have good speed, which helps us. And we are both strong in the tackle, so I'm hopeful we're going to play together again. I'll be ready if 'Nees' needs me."
Intense battle in Aarhus awaits
Next up for FCK is a trip to Aarhus and a clash with AGF on Sunday. Diks played on loan at AGF before making a permanent move to FCK in 2021. And he's looking forward to returning to his old stomping ground.
"It was important that we got back on track and got the three points against Viborg, even though it was far from our best match," says Diks. "But we know that we have to raise the level further against AGF on Sunday.
"It's always an intense match between us two teams, and it will be definitely be the same again. We ended the autumn by winning a close game over there, so we know what it takes - and we have to take the three points home once again."
