FCK U19s: Johansson and Højlund on beating Bayern
F.C. Copenhagen's U19 team continued their 100 percent start to the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich U19s.
Emil Højlund opened the scoring for the Lions, before Noah Sahsah netted twice in the second half. Sahsah's second came in stoppage time after Bayern have levelled the game from 2-0 down.
After the match U19s head coach Alfred Johansson said: "I thought we played a fantastic match, and we have the 15 minutes in the second half where we didn't quite keep our composure. This applies to myself on the sidelines, but also to the players on the pitch.
"It was a bit too hectic and they earned too many turnovers. They scored the two goals out of that, so we can learn something from it.
"Apart from that, I thought we were really good on the ball, we were dangerous and created more chances than them. I thought we had a good mindset and was confident we would come back even if they made it 2-2. I thought that was very impressive."
Højlund said after the game that confidence in the Young Lions is high, having come into this clash having beaten Galatasaray last time out.
"It's was a game we controlled well. We win the first half 1-0 and were in strong control, keeping them away from big chances," said Højlund. "They had a shot that hit the crossbar, but otherwise it was us who controlled the game and in the end we also won it.
"We dared to play our own game and we didn't get nervous. We didn't play on their terms, I think that was decisive today.
"We were very well prepared, and we knew that this is a Bayern team that wants to play physically and directly, but I thought we matched them well."
Manchester United next
Next up for FCK's U19s in the UEFA Youth League is a trip to the UK to face Manchester United later this month. FCK sit top of Group A on six points, with United and Bayern both three points behind.
Before that, Johansson believes his team can get even stronger when they take on Vejle at the weekend.
"It is a different game playing away in Vejle than playing here against Bayern, but just like when we went to Silkeborg, we had just played against Galatasaray, so we know how to play those games," says the coach.
"We have to play with the same concentration, with the same turnover, we have to be aggressive in our pressure and run for each other, because that will also be needed in Vejle.
"We're confident in how good we are, and we have also shown that in pre-season, in the league, in Istanbul and also here tonight."
Højlund is also looking forward to continuing the team's progress in Europe.
"We have to keep playing our way and be mature in the last phase of the game," adds the youngster. "Because both this season and last season we become a little immature in the last part of the game, so we have to put a little more effort into that."
