Elyounoussi and Sørensen react to Vejle win

Christian Sørensen, match winner Mohamed Elyounoussi and head coach Jacob Neestrup spoke to FCK.dk after Saturday's 2-1 victory over Vejle.

"It's not easy to face a team that that sit so deep, so sometimes a little extra is needed," said Sørensen.

"We have to recognise that Vejle did well with the tactics they had put in place, and we had to dig deep to find answers. We went wide and played higher up the field than we usually do. But we have to be able to do that too, because it's not the last time we'll meet a team that plays like Vejle.

"I think the substitutions showed the difference between F.C. Copenhagen and Vejle, because we were not weakened when swapping players out.

Elyounoussi: The team is improving
It was Elyounoussi who grabbed the winner in the 82nd minute and the forward had to bide his time before finally getting on the scoresheet.

"Vejle played very low and tried to hit us on the counter, but I think we were in full control for most of the match. After their goal I think we took bigger risks, which of course we have to do in order to create some bigger chances.

"It was great to score in Parken because I haven't done that yet. But it's about continuing the good work. The international break has been good for me and the team, and I feel that we have become even better."

Neestrup praises substitutions
Head coach Neestrup used all five substitutions in Saturday's game, with Sørensen coming on just 34 minutes in to replace Birger Meling.

Reflecting on the game, Neestrup said: "We used our substitutions very well today, and in particular Andreas Cornelius and (Lukas) Lerager we brought in and they did well. That created good pressure in the midfield.

"(Elias) Achouri did well, Sørensen contributed what he had to and (Peter) Ankersen was absolutely excellent. That's why we succeeded with our subs.

"I am really happy with Sørensen's performance because a match like this is is big for him, and he handled it very well. Sørensen was absolutely excellent.

"We worked on our defensive approach both collectively and individually, and we hope that we can see improvements as soon as possible. Our best defensive games have been against some really good opponents like Bayern Munich, Rakow and Sparta Prague.

"I think we were too open in our organisation today, and we didn't apply the right pressure. We were stressed about having to score, but from the 70th minute onwards I think we took control of the game and created a lot of chances."

It was Sørensen who set up Elyounoussi's winner and the match winner was naturally delighted with the service.

"Sørensen did well on the flank, and everyone knows that he has a good left foot," added Elyounoussi.

"Therefore, for me, it was all about getting into the box. For many, it may be a surprise that I scored with my head, but those who know me know that I am good at headers!"

Focus now turns to Tuesday's UEFA Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford, where Manchester United await the Lions.
