FCK exit Danish Cup

F.C. Copenhagen exited the Danish Cup at the quarter-final stage on Saturday despite a 2-1 victory over Silkeborg.

A Robin Østrøm own goal and Christian Sørensen's strike put the Lions two up and level on aggregate following the 2-0 first-leg defeat in Parken earlier in the week.

But Anders Klynge halved the deficit on the night in the second half and Silkeborg held on to progress to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

After the game FCK head coach Jacob Neestrup said: "We're not out because of the effort and the performance today, but because of the terrible game we delivered in Parken on Wednesday.

"We just have to recognise that Silkeborg were the better over the two games as a whole, so we pay the price for not being where we needed to be in the two lots of 90 minutes. We are very disappointed by that, because there was nowhere we would rather be than in a cup final again and give all Copenhageners that experience again.

"But we did what we could today, even though we were behind 2-0 from the first game. We scored two goals, and we had the ball in the goal twice more but they were offside, and we had many other opportunities to score a third and fourth goal.

"But of course I'm not satisfied that we conceded again on a set piece, and it was just a few seconds of inattention that meant we were punished when Klynge got away. And it wasn't because we stood high on the field, because you have to in modern football, but because we didn't react in time to what they did in the situation. And I recognise that it is a problem that we have to do something about, because it happened earlier in the season.

"But as I said, what happened in Parken the other day is the main reason why we're out, but in terms of effort and performance we were back to what you can expect after the display the other day."
