Magnus Mattsson joins F.C. Copenhagen
F.C. Copenhagen have signed Magnus Mattsson from the Dutch club NEC Nijmegen.
Mattsson joins FCK on an agreement until the summer of 2028 and will be given shirt No 8.
The Dane began his career at Silkeborg IF, where he made 74 first-team appearances, scored 31 goals and provided 16 assists. In 2021 he was sold to NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch Eredivisie, where this season he has played 22 games and scored 13 goals.
PC: A clear target for us
"Magnus has been a clear target for us in this window, so we are satisfied that we've succeeded in getting him to FCK," says FCK sporting director Peter Christiansen.
"He has been a significant profile in the Eredivisie this season, and his approach gives us even more opportunities and increased competition in a number of positions heading into the spring, and also in the longer term."
Mattsson: A big change for me
Mattsson says he is looking forward to becoming part of F.C. Copenhagen.
"It's a big change for me," says Mattsson. "I have had a fantastic time at Nijmegen, for which I will always be grateful, but the opportunity to come to F.C. Copenhagen was really something special for me, and I have had a great desire to make this happen.
"For me, FCK are an international club that have taken some significant steps forward in recent years. The team plays an attractive form of football that suits me well, and I get the opportunity to play with fantastically talented teammates and in front of an impressive fanbase. I'm really looking forward to that."
Neestrup: A significant reinforcement
Head coach Jacob Neestrup sees Mattsson's arrival as a significant strengthening of the squad.
"He has the skills to become a top player for us, I have no doubt about that," says Neestrup.
"I have followed Magnus for many years, first at Silkeborg and most recently in the Netherlands, and he is a player with great scoring ability, technical ability and great game intelligence, which he combines with a good work effort.
"He covers several positions and will fight for places in the team from the start. His arrival ensures increased competition and more options in our overall game and I see him fitting in really well."
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen would like to welcome Magnus to the club and the city.
