Oscar Højlund joins Eintracht Frankfurt

F.C. Copenhagen can confirm Oscar Højlund has agreed to join Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Højlund has been part of F.C. Copenhagen's academy since he was 13 years old, and the now 19-year-old midfielder has made a total of 23 first-team appearances for the Lions.

"Oscar has been with us since he was a teenager, and we know both him and his family well. That's why it's particularly special to say goodbye to him," says FCK sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen.

"Oscar is a skilled player, and we would have liked to see him continue here, where we can offer development at a high international level. But that won’t now happen, and we naturally respect his desire to move on.

"We wish Oscar the best of luck in the future and hope to see him on the stands in Parken.”

Head coach Jacob Neestrup also has warm words for Højlund as he continues his career in Germany.

"Oscar is a good guy and a great player with a lot of drive on and off the pitch,” says Neestrup.

"He has always been a pleasure to have in the team and I regret that we could not keep him a little longer, but I respect Oscar's decision and we look forward to following his next steps in the Bundesliga.”

For the young midfielder, it will also be special goodbye to F.C. Copenhagen, his teammates, friends and the many coaches and staff that he has become to know over many years in the Danish capital.

"I’ve been given a unique opportunity that I’m very proud of, and I want to seize it so that I can also succeed outside of Denmark,” he says.

"I’m looking forward to it, but it will be sad to say goodbye to a place that has been my second home for so many years. I have met many good people and I owe them all a big thank you for helping me along the way.

“The training I received at FCK’s Talent Department is completely unique, and I take many good things with me from there.”

Højlund's contract with F.C. Copenhagen was due to expire on 31 December 2024.

Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen wishes Oscar good luck with the next step in his career.
