Neestrup: An important win against Randers

F.C. Copenhagen earned a 1-0 win at home to Randers on Sunday as the Lions kicked off the Danish Superliga's Championship Round with three points.

Magnus Mattsson popped up with the winner 20 minutes into the contest when he headed home Rodrigo Huescas' cross from the right.

Victory sees FCK cut the gap on leaders FC Midtjylland to one point with nine games of the campaign remaining.

"It was an important win, especially after our recent results, and overall I'm happy with the performance," said Jacob Neestrup after the game.

"I'm especially happy with our first half-hour, but of course I would have liked to have seen us create more.

"But we didn't give much away either, and we were solid, disciplined and assured of the ball. Our strong defence carried us through. There was a period in the middle of the second half where we lost the initiative and it also got a bit hectic towards the very end, but I didn't see many dangerous Randers chances in the game.

"We knew that even though we wanted to go out and dominate from the start, we'd have to do it without exposing ourselves at the back, because against a team like Randers you really have to be smart about where you put the ball in play, and we succeeded in that.

"So all in all, it was a well-run match where we also got some players back who have been out for a while, so I think there are several positive things we can take away from this match."

Next up for FCK is a trip to FC Nordsjælland on Sunday.
