Parken and Andel agree groundbreaking energy partnership

F.C. Copenhagen and energy group Andel are today entering into a strategic, innovative partnership with a focus on the green transition of Parken, Denmark’s national stadium.

Denmark's leading energy group and Scandinavia's largest football club are joining hands on a comprehensive agreement with Parken Stadium as the focal point.

The partnership is based on a strong shared understanding around the importance of a green transition in society. Over a five-year period, extensive energy renovations will be carried out and new green solutions will be implemented in Parken.

Parken will, in future, purchase electricity from Andel's newly built solar park at Vedde on Zealand. Denmark’s national stadium will be in a position to inspire others and act as a development hub for Andel's energy solutions.

"Our goal is to make Denmark's national stadium a beacon for the country’s green transition, where innovative energy solutions show the way for how sports and climate action can go hand in hand,” says Andel’s CEO, Jesper Hjulmand.

“Football is a central part of Danish culture. We have a unique opportunity to inspire both businesses and fans to take an active part in the green transition."

"Through our energy partnership, we can show that the climate fight is not only a necessity, but also an opportunity to create a greener future for everyone.”

Football is Denmark’s largest sport with over 360,000 active players, 120,000 volunteers and thousands of committed fans. With football’s special position in Danish society, the partnership can have a large reach and the opportunity to drive broad, positive change.

"F.C. Copenhagen has a responsibility to be active in society and shape the development of our own home and our environment," says F.C. Copenhagen CEO, Jacob Lauesen.

“It is an essential part of our strategy to use our size and influence to make a difference. With this partnership, we are leaving another positive mark on Copenhagen and contributing to the city’s goal of becoming CO2 neutral."

The partnership is part of F.C. Copenhagen's platform, ForKBH, which aims to increase the club's social engagement and contribution to the Danish capital.

  • The first phase of the agreement includes, among other things:
  • Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) from Solarpark Vedde.
  • Charging infrastructure from Andel's company Clever, which makes it easier for visitors and residents in the area to charge electric cars.

Advice on energy efficiency and consumption flexibility, where Parken's electricity consumption is balanced in relation to the supply of renewable energy and price fluctuations.

The parties will jointly develop several solutions, which may, for example, include solar cells and batteries that can be charged when electricity prices are low and there is plenty of renewable energy in the electricity grid.
