F.C. Copenhagen legend Diego Tur on the derby
F.C. Copenhagen host Brøndby on Sunday in the second derby of the Alka Superliga season.
FCK legend Diego Tur was there from the start. The former defender played in the very first derby between FCK and Brøndby - even though it wasn’t billed as a derby back then.
He joined the Lions when B1903 and KB merged 25 years ago and the Dane even scored in one of his derby appearances, on August 27, 1995.
F.C. Copenhagen and the derby have come a long way since then. And Legends Club member Tur still remembers the good old days.
"They were the big games in the ‘80s and the early ‘90s,” Tour said, reflecting on the matches between Denmark’s capital clubs.
“But FCK became an entertaining team with a squad of B1903 players who had excelled at the top.
“We had a board and management structure that was determined to see us be the best.
“In FCK’s formative years meeting Brøndby was not something we did too often. But soon we noticed that something was happening among the fans and the matches were drawing a lot more spectators, and a rivalry began to grow."
FCK v Brøndby gathers momentum
“Of course, it gave the matches an extra edge, which is the hallmark of the derby today.
"The matches were so big. There were so many spectators, and that's what people wanted to see. It was really something that we all looked forward to.
“In recent years, we have luckily had the better share of results over Brøndby, but back then it was more open. There was more at stake.
"I scored in their old stadium. It's clearly the best of the 15 goals I scored for FCK.”
