Emil Højlund promoted to first team
Emil Højlund has been promoted to F.C. Copenhagen’s first-team squad, with whom he will train regularly from now on.
Højlund, 18, made his first-team debut in 2022 against PSV and was most recently on the pitch for the first team in the season opener against Lyngby, where he was substituted.
Peter Christiansen: He has performed very well
"Our talent department trains players at a very high level, and Emil definitely belongs among them," says FCK sporting director Peter Christiansen.
"He has performed well when he has been given opportunities in the first team, and we are sure that he can take further steps forward by being matched with the best every day. We are delighted that we can now provide that him the opportunity.”
Jacob Neestrup: Technically skilled and physically strong
Højlund can play both as a striker and midfielder, and head coach Jacob Neestrup is looking forward to working even more closely with him.
"Emil has really good potential to become a good player for F.C. Copenhagen in the future," says Neestrup.
"He is technically skilled and physically strong, and he is serious and ambitious about his own development.
"It is of course an advantage for him and us that he has already been around the first team so much and knows the club and the culture. We are happy on his behalf and ours that he has taken this step up.”
Emil Højlund: A big day for me
Højlund himself is delighted that he can now call himself a first-team player for F.C. Copenhagen, the club he joined as a 13-year-old from our cooperative club Hørsholm Usserød IK.
"It's a big day for me and a day I've been working towards for a long time,” says Højlund.
"It's a great club to be a part of and it's really nice to feel that the hard work is paying off.
"It motivates me a lot, and I'm really looking forward to giving everything I have every day on the training pitch and when I get playing minutes.”
Højlund will keep shirt number 44.
