FCK earn hard-fought point at Galatasaray
F.C. Copenhagen secured a point from the first UEFA Champions League group game of the season on Wednesday with a 2-2 draw at Galatasaray.
However, the Lions leave Istanbul perhaps wondering what might have been after taking a 2-0 lead through Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Gonçalves.
Unfortunately Jacob Neestrup's side couldn't hold on for the win but secured what could be a crucial point, even with 10 men after Elias Jelert was sent off for a second yellow card.
FCK goalkeeper Kamil Grabara was in typically excellent form as he kept the hosts at bay until Elyounoussi opened the scoring with a delightful control and finish inside the box.
Gonçalves doubled FCK's lead with a cool-headed effort after Birger Meling beat the offside trap and rounded the Galatasaray goalkeeper before squaring to Gonçalves to finish.
Sadly late goals through Sacha Boey and Tete levelled the scores at the end of the game – but it was nevertheless a valiant effort from the Danish champions and a valuable point on the road.
