Mexican defender Huescas joins F.C. Copenhagen

Rodrigo Huescas has today joined F.C. Copenhagen on a five-year agreement.
 
FCK sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen says the Mexican defender’s arrival is the result of hard work across the club’s scouting department.
 
"We are bringing in a player with international potential who has performed well in his domestic league,” says Sune.
 
"We primarily see Rodrigo as a full-back, and so we’ve secured a player who will provide additional competition for that position.
 
"Rodrigo is also a player that our scouting department has taken a close look at and that we believe will fit well into our way of playing.”
 
A new chapter in his career
Huescas, 20, joins F.C. Copenhagen after playing the early years of his career at Mexican side CD Cruz Azul – one of the biggest clubs in Mexico with nine national championships and six titles in CONCACAF Champions Cup.
 
"I am very much looking forward to taking the next step in my career, and the opportunity to come to Copenhagen is great for me," says Huescas.
 
"I have followed the team, and F.C. Copenhagen have the ball a lot and want to attack the game. It suits me well, and the team is at the same time fantastically supported by the fans.
 
“I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting to know them, the coaches and the staff. And then, of course, I have to spend some time getting used to it all, but I'm really looking forward to getting on the field and showing what I can offer.”
 
Speed and strong skill-set
Head coach Jacob Neestrup is delighted to have Huescas as an FCK player.
 
“We are looking forward to getting Rodrigo on the training pitch and starting to bring him into our way of doing things,” says Neestrup.

“There will of course be an adjustment period, but we are looking forward to bringing his speed and strong skill-set into play.”

Huescas will wear jersey number 13 for now, but it may be changed at the end of the summer transfer window, which is also possible for the rest of the squad (except Munashe Garananga, who arrived yesterday).
