Thorup: We must be sharper and more clinical
F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jess Thorup conceded work needs to be done on the sharpness of his players after the 2-1 defeat to Randers on Sunday.
"We had the ball a lot today, but that is not the goal for us, the goal is to create chances and score goals, and we didn't manage that," he said.
"It's as if we have to fight very hard to score goals, while on the other hand it's not hard to score against us, even if the opponents don't have many chances.
"Today they almost scored on our set pieces, and it can't happen that they're able to easily and quickly get up the field and score. We lack some cynicism, and that also applies to when we have chances ourselves.
"We finished the autumn well and also got off to a good start this year, but it was a bit of a knock that we only got one point in the two matches against Brøndby and Midtjylland. We have lost some of the momentum we had previously. But the worst thing is that we have lost some very important ground to reach the top.
"Even though it is tiring to go into an international break after today, we are still looking forward to the playoff round. We have shown that we can play good football, and we still have ambitions to get involved in the top, but it is obvious that this won't happen with performances like today.
"I need to see the match through to assess in more detail what exactly needs to be changed. It's easy enough to say that we need to score more goals and concede fewer, but there are many elements in the game that we need to work on."
