Zeca: No more room for mistakes
F.C. Copenhagen forward Carlos Zeca has called on his team-mates to erase the mistakes of the previous few months and get on with winning again.
You don’t have to be a football guru to figure out that Zeca was not one of our international players who has had a good week.
While Denmark and Sweden both made it to Russia 2018, Zeca’s Greece couldn’t get back Croatia over the two-legged playoff.
"I wrote to Kvist, Ankersen and Robin and congratulated them on their qualification and, of course, I'm happy on their behalf that they did it. But it was a pity for Greece that we could not beat Croatia. It’s the TV screen for me and then we will focus on Euro 2020,” said Zeca.
"But regardless of the results, we have to put the national teams behind us now and focus on the club because we have a difficult task in front of us, not just on Sunday but for the rest of the season. The past is the past and there is no room for more mistakes if we are to get back into the championship race.
"We still have the opportunities in the Europa League and in the DBU Cup, and I can promise fans that we will do everything we can to get back on course.
“Although we are all disappointed, we must stand together, both fans, players, coaches and everyone else in the club, because it's the best way to turn things around. And then, just work hard every day.”
Although Zeca has only been at the club a short time, he has already gained a high place in the hierarchy with the role of deputy captain when William Kvist and Nicolai Boilesen have not played. And he would like to take his share of responsibility.
"It's been a lot since I arrived, but it's clear that I'd like to help with all my experience, and so on, both on the pitch and in the changing room,” he said.
“Especially when it's hard times for FCK while it's all happening for other teams.”
F.C. Copenhagen face SønderjyskE in Haderslev on Sunday (4pm) and you can watch the match on Canal 9 and Eurosport Player.
