Jelert looks ahead to OB showdown
F.C. Copenhagen full-back Elias Jelert says the target for the team is to finish the regular season well before turning attention to the Danish Superliga's Championship Round.
The league splits into two after this weekend's matches, with FCK set to compete with five other top-half teams for the title.
The Lions face OB on Sunday and sit three points off league leaders FC Midtjylland. OB can finish sixth in the regular season only if they win and other results go their way.
Sunday's 5pm kick off is a chance for FCK to forge a new run of form following last week's 4-0 victory over Lyngby.
And Jelert reckons the squad is heading in the right directions with 11 games of the season remaining.
"There are definitely several things that we can take away from the match against Lyngby," he told FCK.dk. "The pace and control of the game, and our attention to ur defensive set-up, are some of the things that were positive. I think we have looked more stable in defence this spring and the third clean sheet also shows that we are on the right track there.
"It is important that we are careful in our defensive work."
Jelert, 20, has been called up to the Denmark national team for March games against Switzerland and Faroe Islands. But the young defender is primarily focused on getting three points from Odense first.
"We have focused on closing the regular season well, and we'll do that on Sunday in Odense," he added. "They have got a bit more momentum but with our quality we have to take control from the start and win the game. That is the challenge we've set for the match."
Jelert also twice came close to scoring for the Lions during the victory over Lyngby and he hopes it won't be long before he finds the net.
"I'm getting closer," he adds. "That would be great. But honestly, my focus is on our overall good performances and winning matches. We have many others who are doing well in front of goal."
