League leaders FCK beat Lyngby in Parken

F.C. Copenhagen beat Lyngby BK 2-1 on Sunday as the Danish Superliga returned following the international break – and boss Jacob Neestrup was pleased to secure the win.

Robert Silva gave the Lions a 19th-minute lead when he fired low from the edge of the box and evaded everyone to find the bottom corner.

Victor Froholdt's deflected strike in front of Sektion 12 on 81 minutes doubled FCK's lead. And while Michael Opoku's towering header game LBK late hope, the Lions held on for a solid win.

“I'm satisfied that we got three points and that we played an excellent first half and an acceptable second half, because even though not everything was perfect, and we should have closed the game out much earlier, we headed into the last 10 minutes two up,” said Jacob Neestrup.

“We should have closed the game out then and I am definitely not satisfied with the last 10 minutes, because we lost all the initiative and were about to throw it all away. We could have left with one point again after a game we have dominated massively.

“There is so much quality and talent in this team that we need to be able to manage a 2-0 lead in Parken better at the end and not give them the opportunity to come back. Of course we have to avoid that in the future, because unfortunately it was not the first time this autumn that it's happened.

“In difficult away games against AGF, Brøndby and Betis we have shown that we can maintain a very high level right until the end and get that single point without giving anything away, but it seems like it happens a little too often when we feel too confident of victory.

“But I am pleased that we are once again showing a very high level in large parts of the game and especially in the first half. Even though the second half was not perfect, it was still within our sights until we got to 2-0. But three points and sitting in first place during a historically close Superliga season – that is what I will take away from here tonight."

Next up for FCK is an away trip to FC Dinamo-Minsk in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday (6:45pm).
