Ex-FCK striker Mate Sestan passes away
It is with great sadness that F.C. Copenhagen have received the news that our former striker, Mate Sestan, has passed away at the age of 52 at his home in Zadar in Croatia.
Our thoughts go out to Mate's family.
Mate, who was born on 12 February 1971, is the first of F.C. Copenhagen's 300-plus first-team players to have passed away.
He joined FCK as a 25-year-old in the summer of 1996 from Croatian side NK Marsonia, and initially signed a contract for just the autumn of 1996. He then penned a permanent contract at the beginning of 1997, before moving to Spanish side Levante at the end of the year.
He made his official FCK debut on 29 June when as a substitute in an Intertoto Cup match in Vanløse Idrætspark against Örebro SK.
Sestan played a total of 39 games for F.C. Copenhagen and scored seven goals.
The thoughts of everyone associated with the club are with his family at this time.
