F.C. Copenhagen appoint new assistant coach

F.C. Copenhagen have appointed Jens Berthel Askou as the club's new assistant coach. The agreement will run initially until the summer, at which point all parties will discuss whether or not to continue.

Jens, 42, has plenty of years of coaching experience from his time at Sparta Prague, IFK Göteborg, AC Horsens, HB Thorshavn, Vendsyssel FF, Thisted FC and Skive IK.

He is also a well-known name in Danish football, having played for the likes of Silkeborg IF, Vejle Boldklub and Esbjerg fB. The former defender also played in both England (for Norwich City and Millwall) and Turkey.

Sune: Jens will complement the coaching team
FCK sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen said of the appointment: "We are constantly looking at how we can strengthen our setup both on and off the pitch at F.C. Copenhagen. With Jens, we get a coach who will complement the rest of the coaching team really well with his professional skills. He knows Danish football inside out and knows what the demands are."

Jens: Great opportunity for me
Jens is also looking forward to taking on the challenge of working at F.C. Copenhagen.

"I am happy that this opportunity has come to me, and I am passionate about the challenge ahead," he says. "I am sure that I can help the team become even stronger. I know (Jacob) Neestrup and the rest of the coaching team as very skilled and competent, so I am very much looking forward to our collaboration."

Neestrup: Professionally skilled
FCK head coach Jacob Neestrup is looking forward to starting work with Jens this winter.

"Jens is a person with extensive experience from Danish football. His professional strengths and not least his character will complement our coaching team well. I look forward to a good collaboration,” says the boss.

Jens Berthel Askou joins a coaching team that already includes Jacob Neestrup, Stefan Madsen, Hjalte Bo Nørregaard, Kim Christensen and Andrew Clark.
