FCK 0-0 Guangzhou: Ståle happy with discipline
FC Copenhagen drew 0-0 with Guangzhou in their second friendly match of the Dubai training camp.
FCK manager Ståle Solbakken was pleased with the discipline showed by his players after Monday’s 5-0 defeat to FC Zenit.
The Lions had the majority of chances in the game but could not break down their Chinese opponents.
"The discipline was back!” Ståle told FCK.dk.
“They only had one chance in the first half and we have four of five opportunities so we delivered a good and disciplined half against their strongest team.
“Eight of those who started also carried on into the seven half. There is a bit of fatigue among the players who played the whole match as Guangzhou changed their whole team during the break.
"We created many great chances and should have scored a few goals, but it was also important to restrict them to a few chances, and we succeeded.
“After the break they had a few efforts on the counter plus two or three set pieces. That's what we hoped for, so there was clear progress from our end regarding defensive discipline.”
Next up for FC Copenhagen is a friendly with Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday, January 30.
The Lions will then head back to Copenhagen to prepare for our DBU Cup game against Brøndby.
"Now we have a massive test against Shakhtar, one of the few teams this season that have beaten Manchester City,” Ståle said.
“So for us it's a perfect test of our concentration and pace and see if we can match them.”
