Michael Lüftner to stay on loan at Omonia Nicosia
F.C. Copenhagen have agreed to a new loan deal with Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia for Czech defender Michael Lüftner.
The 26-year-old will therefore continue playing in the Cypriot top flight over the coming season.
Lüftner has been very successful in Cyprus, with his club finishing the season in first place ahead of APOEL, though without the club being officially named champion, as the season was canceled after 23 games due to the coronavirus crisis. Lüftner has played 21 league games for the club.
“We have been delighted to see Michael succeed in Cyprus, where he has really come back strong after his serious injury," says FCK manager Ståle Solbakken.
"A loan agreement is a good solution in the current situation, where he would have difficulty getting fixed playing time in the FCK squad and where the coronavirus crisis makes moves difficult.
"In Omonia he has a skilled coach in Henning Berg and he is playing for the Czech national team and could very well have been part of their European squad this summer.
"Now he has one more season to develop and get a lot of matches under his belt, and then we will follow his development."
Lüftner has played 52 matches for FCK and has a contract until the summer of 2022.
