Neestrup: We got the win we needed
F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup says the 2-0 win over Sønderjyske on Sunday was just reward for a solid performance as the Lions go a point clear at the top of the Danish Superliga table.
A first-half goal from Orri Óskarsson and Mohamed Elyounoussi's late finish wrapped up the match for FCK.
And Neestrup was happy to get out of Haderslev with all three points.
"We got the win we needed and that's the most important thing at the moment. We can look back on a start to the season that is satisfactory in terms of results," says Neestrup.
"I have said several times that right now it's just about scraping together as many points as possible before the international break and at the same time playing us in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage.
"We now have 10 points after four games, and we know that the performances have been fluctuating, but you just have to remember the context with the many changes, especially in our back ranks, which of course have presented some challenges.
"Today we could easily have won by more if the margins had been more with us. We hit the woodwork two or three times and had four goals disallowed for offside, and even if they were correct rulings, there is not much that is missing. I'm not saying it was just bad luck, because we also have to time our runs correctly.
"We got off to a bad start in the first ten minutes, when they had a great chance, but then we started to create chances, and we did that continuously throughout the game, even though the flag was up quite a few times.
"But it's clear that as long as we don't close the game out, anything can happen when you're only leading by one goal. I think the players did everything they could to get a commanding. In the end, we won."
