Youth League clash a 'historic match' – PC
F.C. Copenhagen U19s will play a "historic match" against FC Nantes U19s on Tuesday evening when the Young Lions have a shot of reaching the UEFA Youth League semi-finals.
It is the first time a team from the FCK Talent Department has reached this far in the tournament and sporting director Peter Christiansen says the entire club is "hungry for more" success like this.
“It is a historic match," says PC. "Not just for our Talent Department, but for the whole club. At the same time, it is further proof that we are on the right track with the great work and resources we have put into our Talent Development at FCK.
"Having said that, we have not reached our target and I know that the boys are hungry for more, as we always are at the club."
The U19s won their Youth League group involving Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the autumn, and then knocked out the Slovakian champions Zelina. Ninety minutes now await against the French champions Nantes.
"The primary goal of our academy work is to create players who are skilled enough to contribute to the first team, while reaching our sporting goals," adds PC. "This is a major strategic pillar for us and therefore it is important that young players are strongly matched in their education and get to experience firsthand what may be in store for them later on in their careers. Matches like the one against Nantes are a good example of that."
