Emil Højlund sold to FC Schalke 04
F.C. Copenhagen have reached an agreement with FC Schalke 04 for the transfer of 19-year-old Emil Højlund, who will continue his career in the German 2. Bundesliga.
Emil Højlund has made three first-team appearances for F.C. Copenhagen and joined the club in 2018 from our partner club, Hørsholm-Usserød Idrætsklub. His contract was set to expire on December 31, 2024.
Sports Director Sune Smith-Nielsen comments on the departure of Emil Højlund:
“Emil has been with F.C. Copenhagen since he came together with Oscar as a very young player, so it is also special to see him move on.”
“We have, of course, had discussions about the possibilities, and we would have liked Emil to continue with us, where he could develop further, but we also understand the desire to test himself in new surroundings.”
“We wish Emil the best of luck, and it will be exciting to follow him in the future,” says Sune Smith-Nielsen.
Emil Højlund has been part of F.C. Copenhagen since he was 13 years old, and after six years at the club, he is now moving on to Germany and the 2. Bundesliga.
Emil Højlund says about the move:
“I am proud to have the opportunity to test myself in a new country, and this would not have happened without the strong football education I received at F.C. Copenhagen.”
“Therefore, I would also like to give a big thanks to all the coaches and staff members who have influenced me during my time at F.C. Copenhagen. They have helped me, made me better, and educated me in many ways.”
“Now I am going to chase more playing time and stand on my own, and I am looking forward to it,” says Emil Højlund.
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen wishes Emil the best of luck in his future career.
