Orri Óskarsson extends contract until 2028
Orri Óskarsson has extended his contract at F.C. Copenhagen until the summer of 2028 to underline his commitment to continuing his development in the Danish capital.
The contract extension is a welcome agreement for all parties.
Sune Smith-Nielsen: We are incredibly happy
"In these transfer times, there is a lot of speculation and rumours, and a lot have been directed to Orri," says Sune Smith-Nielsen.
"There is a lot of attention around him, and the demand is palpable. The fact that we have agreed, in the same period as this, that Orri's future lies with F.C. Copenhagen makes us incredibly happy.
"We have a lot to offer at F.C. Copenhagen and a strong platform where players can develop. A platform where players must perform at the highest domestic level and in European competition.
"Fortunately, Orri agrees with our vision and we are proud that he wants to continue his development here with us, where we also think he belongs.
"There is no doubt that Orri feels at home at F.C. Copenhagen, where he has taken some big steps. It is a gift to Orri and to everyone who has worked with him since his youth. Every single year, Orri has gone further and he has a strong and focused approach to his own development. Now we are just looking forward to seeing even more goals from him in the coming season.”
Title and top scorer ambitions
Óskarsson, 19, joined F.C. Copenhagen from Iceland in 2020 and started off scoring goals for the U17 team, after which he moved up to the U19s and became top scorer with 29 league goals and the Danish title in the 2021/22 season.
The Icelandic forward has made 50 first-team appearances for FCK already, scoring 16 goals. Now the plan is to score even more.
"I feel incredibly settled here in Copenhagen, both at the club and in the city, so I am very happy to extend my contract," says Óskarsson.
"It has been a big dream to play regularly since I joined the club in 2020, and I have many more ambitions for my time at F.C. Copenhagen. I have an ambition to become the top scorer in the Superliga in the coming season and to help secure the club the next championship."
Worked his way back into the team
Head coach Jacob Neestrup also reserved praise to Óskarsson, who he has seen develop extensively on the training pitch.
"Orri was already an important player last season for F.C. Copenhagen. Especially in the initial phase of the season and at the end, Orri continuously showed what potential he possesses,” says Neestrup.
"He has good pressing intensity as well as a good combination of being able to work between and behind the opposition's lines when we attack.
"Furthermore, he has shown early in his career that he can create many chances in different ways, and now the goals are coming too.
"Most importantly, however, which we have also previously said, Orri has worked himself back into the team. His hard, persistent work on the training ground has been impressive, and we look forward to further cooperation.”
