Giorgi Gocholeishvili

Georgian international defender joins FCK

Giorgi Gocholeishvili has joined F.C. Copenhagen on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk for the rest of the season with an option to buy the Georgia international.

Gocholeishvili plays as a right-back and has appeared in 37 matches for the Ukrainian champions, and boasts eight international caps for Georgia.

Performed at a high level
Sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen says of the deal: “We are getting a very skilled player whom we have been watching for a long time.

“Giorgi maintains a high level and has consistently performed well at a high level for an extended period and most recently been a part of Georgia's squad during their impressive Euro 2024 campaign.

"With the departure of Elias Jelert, it was important to maintain competition in the right-back position, and that’s why the agreement with Giorgi fits very well.

"We now have talented players in that position who can push each other in the battle for playing time.”

Heard great things about Copenhagen
The Georgian defender has received information about F.C. Copenhagen from his compatriot David Khocholava, and Giorgi looks forward to becoming part of the club.

“I am happy that this opportunity has arisen,” he says.

“F.C. Copenhagen are a big club that I have seen perform well in Europe. I have only heard great things from David about the club, the fans, and the city, and the introduction I have received from the coach and the sporting director has been top-notch.

"I look forward to getting on the training pitch with my teammates and getting to know them better.”

A solid player strengthening competition
Jacob Neestrup is confident that F.C. Copenhagen are getting a skilled player who can help ensure a strong squad after the departure of Jelert.

“We look forward to bringing Giorgi into the team and strengthening the competition for the position,” says Neestrup.

“Giorgi is a player who is solid in his defensive play, possesses high speed, and plays with heart and great intensity.

“He just needs to settle into the team, and then we look forward to involving him in the matches."

Gocholeishvili will wear jersey number 22 and will train with the team once his work permit is in place. His number 22 shirt is confirmed also after the transfer window closes.
