Cornelius strike sends FCK top of the league
Andreas Cornelius bagged his third goal in three games as FC Copenhagen went top of the Alka Superliga with a win over Hobro on Sunday.
Cornelius, back from an ankle injury that ended his 2014/15 season early last spring, lashed home a knock-down from Thomas Delaney off the crossbar with six minutes remaining.
Hobro should have taken the lead when Jesper Bøge’s thundered effort clipped the woodwork in a frantic opening to the game.
Kasper Kusk twice saw good chances go begging, while Benjamin Verbic fired a one-on-one effort off target and Federico Santander was denied by goalkeeper Jesper Rask as FCK sought a reply.
Nicolai Jørgensen thought he had scored when the winger hit the crossbar from two yards out but the ball did not cross the line.
And just when a goalless draw looked inevitable Cornelius came up with the goods - the Denmark international pinging home with his left foot.
The win to the top of the table, alongside FC Midtjylland on 18 points but with a one-goal advantage on goal difference.
