Neestrup: Win over Vejle hugely important
F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup believes the three points earned in Saturday's 2-1 win over Vejle in Parken was all that mattered after a rollercoaster afternoon in the Danish capital.
The Lions went a goal down only to reverse the tie in the second half with goals from Elias Achouri and Mohamed Elyounoussi.
Discussing the game, Neestrup said: "It was a very important victory, we got the job done in the end, and in my opinion it was fully deserved, even if we had to work hard for it.
"We had a period in the middle of the second half where they scored and which I'm not happy about. But it wasn't long after the goal before we controlled the game again. The boys kept their cool and kept pushing, and in the end we could have won by much more than 2-1.
"There was a lot we could have done differently and better, so I am far from satisfied with it all, but the most important thing was that we won this match. Vejle are never easy to play against because they sit so deep and defend well, and they rarely lose heavily.
"But of course it is not good enough that we gave away the chances away that we did, when we were so dominant in the game. In particular, we had problems with (goalscorer German) Onugkha's deep runs, one of which resulted in the goal, and maybe we were also a little too stressed in that period too.
"But as I said, we came back strongly. Not least because of our substitutions, which again made a difference. All five contributed to keeping up the pressure right to the end."
Next up for F.C. Copenhagen is a trip to Manchester United on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
